Abandoned: Westport Generating Station (Baltimore, MD)

Westport Generating Station, built in 1906, was the first abandoned building I ever explored. At the time, the only accessible way into the plant was through a forgotten crawlspace in the ceiling of a side passage. I visited this place several times after that and then once after its destruction in 2008. I also have a video tour from within the plant that I need to post at some point.

This plant had the reputation of being the largest reinforced concrete building in the world. It was a mammoth, spanning several city blocks along the edge of Baltimore Bay. One of the cooler aspects of the plant was its suspended rail car system in the highest floor of the plant.
